Cartoons to Life
Today we are going to add our 10 of our favorite cartoon characters to the background of our choice. The background can be of a school setting, playground, park, baseball field, subway, etc…
1. Open Internet ExplorerGo to google images and save 1 background and 10 cartoon characters (cartoons, tv shows, Mario brothers, mortal combat, etc) to your Pictures folder in MyDocuments\Tech 6,7 or 8\Pictures. Be sure to select pictures that have a solid color background or transparent background. (Transparent color backgrounds show little gray and white squares)
2. Open Paint.NET
Double-click on the Paint.NET icon if present on your desktop.
3. Select File > Open... , press CTRL + Oor click the file open icon

Browse to the H:\Your user name\MyDocuments\Tech 6,7 o r8\pictures and select the image you would like to use as your background and click Open
4. Add a cartoon

This section introduces the concept of layers and transparency.
Select Layers > Import From File...

You should be taken straight to the
H:\Your user name\MyDocuments\Tech 6,7 or 8\pictures directory, if not then browse to it as before
Select a character and click Open
The 'Layers' palette (at the bottom-right of the Paint.NET screen by default) now displays 2 layers with a background layer ('paramount') and a second layer ‘Homer Simpson’.Layers take precedence the further up the stack they are (so on the main image, Homer Simpson is not obscured by the Paramount).

5. Remove unwanted colors

Click on the Magic Wand in the Tools Window on the left. (If the tools window does not show click F5)Using the Magic Wand Click on the area that you want removed from your image and Click Delete. Please note that the Magic Wand is not always perfect. The Eraser Tool maybe needed before the colors are removed.

6. Add another Cartoon Character
Repeat steps 4 & 5 until you have added all 10 Characters.
